Contrary to popular belief, Lorem Ipsum is not simply random text. It has roots in a piece of classical Latin literature from 45 BC, making it over 2000 years old. Richard McClintock, a Latin professor at Hampden-Sydney College in Virginia, looked up one of the more obscure Latin words, consectetur, from a Lorem Ipsum passage, and going through the cites of the word in classical literature, discovered the undoubtable source. Lorem Ipsum comes from sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 of “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” (The Extremes of Good and Evil) by Cicero, written in 45 BC. This book is a treatise on the theory of ethics, very popular during the Renaissance. The first line of Lorem Ipsum, “Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet..”, comes from a line in section 1.10.32.

Sections 1.10.32 and 1.10.33 from “de Finibus Bonorum et Malorum” by Cicero are also reproduced in their exact original form, accompanied by English versions from the 1914 translation by H. From Menarchy Beyond Menopause<\/div>

The marking of men\u2019s life\u2019s cycles through initiatory acts has existed around the world since time immemorial. For Women, however, these rites of passage are naturally built into our visceral experience of life, as we navigate from menarche (a woman\u2019s first bleed), beyond menopause. However, within the context of modern western societies, rites of passage seem to have become a quiet hum in the distance and yet, as cyclical beings, we cannot escape them, for they are an inherent part of who we are. Just like a tree grows from a seed and eventually returns back to the soil which gave it life, we too, move through many iterations of ourselves throughout our lives. As interconnected beings, great power and nourishment can be found when we are held and witnessed by our communities, as we move through initiatory thresholds.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

My intention for this project is to create a greater sense of collective awareness around the rites of passage we naturally experience throughout our lives, as girls and women. These include menarche, menstruation, first sexual experiences, pregnancy, birth, abortion, miscarriage, menopause and beyond.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

My wish is to raise our voices and shine a light on our initiatory journeys as girls and women in this world.
\nMy wish is for each one of us to know that no matter which rite of passage we are navigating, we are not alone. That we can be heard and witnessed.
\nMy wish is for the world to remember the importance of celebrating, honouring and supporting girls and women, as we navigate these rites of passage.
\nMy wish is to inspire a sense of remembering and reconnection with our own bodies\u2019 and that of the Earth\u2019s inherently cyclical nature, through the honouring of life\u2019s initiatory thresholds.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>

\nThe vision is to create a book, as well as a touring exhibition, that will relate the impact, breadth and diversity of the rites of passage we navigate throughout our lives as girls and women.

My intention is to meet you ~ girls and women of all ages ~ and talk about a rite of passage of your choice.
\nThis conversation will be guided and held in a safe container by myself, in a place of your choice (this can be your home, or wherever else feels comfortable). My main priority is for you to feel at ease, held and seen.
\nEach interview is then followed by a short photo session, with the intention of creating a portrait that illustrates and complements your words.
